Encore in case you missed it! Please help spread the word so everyone can get my e-book on food storage for free!
There was a time in early 2017 that preparedness bloggers were asking: is prepping dead? Shortly thereafter, a lot of sites went dark and emergency food and other supplies started showing up at deep discounts on eBay, Craigslist, and other outlets. That was a shame, really, because the reasons we prepare have never gone away.
Mother Nature continues to wreak havoc, unexpected repairs or medical bills can decimate the family budget, people change careers and must start over, and, perhaps most insidious, governments, large corporations, and even the mainstream media attempt to instill influence and control over our daily lives.
For these reasons and more, I continue to champion preparedness to anyone that will listen. And while it is nice to have the latest and greatest survival doo-dad in our prepping arsenal, the fact remains that food typically takes a prominent place in our preparedness efforts.
So, as I do from time to time, I am offering my eBook, The Prepper’s Guide to Food Storage, for free for a limited time starting now and running through July 31. But first, a few things need to be said that reflect my current thoughts on the importance of food storage.
The start of my prepping journey stemmed from a concern that there would not be resources available if a major earthquake hit Washington State. To elaborate, It was my belief and still is, that the urban areas surrounding Puget Sound would suck all available personnel and rescue aid, leaving those of us on San Juan Island to fend for ourselves.
To assess my vulnerability, I performed an exhaustive walkaround inventory and came away with a checklist of what I needed to do to ensure I could survive on my own for a minimum of one month. My checklist was huge, with food, sanitation supplies, and water being high on the list.
Three years later, my life had changed forever as I embraced an all-in preparedness lifestyle. Now, almost ten years later, it has changed again as I have had to learn how to prepare for risks specific to Arizona and to the physical limitations that come with age. Nothing bad, mind you, but definitely different.
One thing that has not changed is the need to store food.
My own food storage includes buckets of bulk food items that I have packaged myself along with freeze-dried ingredients and meals in pouches and tins. Still, there are days when I open my closet doors and wonder if it all worth it both in terms of expense and storage space, and each time I do so, I quietly close the door and reaffirm the answer is yes.
Which brings me to today’s offer. For a limited time, you can snag a free copy of my food storage ebook. Although it was published late in 2013, the information is timeless and still serves as a valuable reference to get you on the right track for store food for the long term.

No Kindle? No Problem?
It always surprises me to learn that folks do not realize you do not need a Kindle to read Kindle books. Amazon has a free reading app that allows you to read Kindle books on almost every computer, tablet, smartphone or any other gizmo you can think of.
Here is a link for you: Amazon.com – Read eBooks using the FREE Kindle Reading App on Most Devices.
Summing It All Up
You have heard me say this before. My goal is to get this book into every prepper’s hands, even if it means for free. Amazon allows me to offer the eBook version for free for 5 days every three months and that moment is now.

With my goal of getting this eBook into everyone’s library, I hope you will share this post in all of your FB groups and amongst your prepper friends. I would be grateful!
In the meantime, prepper or not, please take steps to check your food storage. Do you have at least two weeks worth of food to get you through a short-term emergency? One month is better, or, if you are like me, two years or more!
Whatever you have stashed away, take a few moments to inventory what you have and fill in the gaps. You will be glad you did.
Yours for a Joyful Life,
Gaye

Strategic Haul
Back in the day, I would end each article with a list of products related to the post. In all cases, these were products I purchased myself, used, and felt comfortable recommending. Many of the products I now use can be found on the Resources Page. In addition, here are today’s suggestions, aptly named the “Strategic Haul”.
The Prepper’s Guide to Food Storage: This book will give you all the details you need to embark upon a food storage program. It includes tips and tricks for ensuring your food will remain safe to eat and tasty for the long term.
Gallon size Mylar bags: I have always preferred Mylar Bags from Discount Mylar Bags. These are an extra heavy 5ML and they held up well during my long-distance move from Washington State. If you do not have any oxygen absorbers, you can also purchase a kit that includes both the Mylar bags and the O2 absorbers. The 300ml size is what I use since they give me the flexibility to double up or even triple up with larger bags.

Thank you Gaye..I have “ordered” the book. I did read your month by month suggestions for prepping a few years ago…really appreciate your free offer.
Good to hear from you. A lot of us are currently ramping up our prepping efforts again after taking a break. I am trying to come up with a food storage strategy that is workable within a low-carb/Keto framework.
Yes, we have gone KETO as of about 1 1/2 years ago…although we do eat fresh fruit in large quantities. WE sold all the WISE food buckets we had..none ever used because we are full time RVING & live in our RV. I have compensated a little, by buying freeze dried food in pantry size cans from Thrive Life (in Utah, like the others). I do use these to make meals & reorder each month, but I really should store/stock a lot more than I do. Their meats are fine & make fixing a meal so easy. Also, I have stuck with purchasing FD vegetables, but not so much with the fruit. (since we buy fresh where ever we are…should stock up on fruit too). I am convinced on the KETO eating plan..we try to avoid processed foods & grains for the most part. Thanks for your reply..will be interested in what you come up with on the KETO food storage strategy. Susan
New Chinese pandemic starting. Good reason to prep now.
The Wuhan coronavirus situation is a great reminder of why you need to have food storage already in place. How many people are truly prepared if a pandemic closed their city? Every winter storm the supermarkets are crazy with folks getting their supplies, so even if the stores are open after a city is quarantined would you really like to be elbow to elbow with folks trying to get supplies for your family? Having a couple of weeks (or more) of food for your family means not having to go out in a potentially dangerous situation – whether that be an ice storm, a pandemic, etc. Food and water are the basis for any good emergency plan since we all need to eat and stay hydrated. All other plans will build on that base, so start there first. Great info Gayle, thanks!
So true. Just to add to that, over a one year period it is easy to slowly build up a food storage (and medical supply) pantry. I did that myself almost 10 years ago and don’t even worry about it anymore. Right now, with the threat of a pandemic looming (and I hope it does not happen), it is good to know that I do not have to rely on grocery stores for food.
Please everyone, spread the word so everyone can get this book for free during the promotional period. The more people that prepare on their own, the safer we will be given a SHTF situation!
I couldn’t see how to read it for free.
Ordering the book isn’t a bad price, I guess
The current price is $0.00. In order to read the book, you need to “purchase” the Kindle version of the book. I just double checked and the purchase price is still $0 as it should be. Try again?
