Rise and Shine Sunshine Diffuser Blend

January 9, 2019 Gaye Levy 1 Comment

Rise and Shine Sunshine EO Diffuser Blend | Strategic Living Blog

One of the easiest ways to glean benefits from essential oils is to use them in a diffuser.  Although this can be accomplished with single oils, something magical happens when two or more oils are blended. This is called an essential oil synergy. In simplistic terms, it means that the combination of two or more essential oils results in a blend that is more effective than the single oils used alone.

I love to create my own synergies and for this article, I share the recipe for what I call “Rise and Shine Sunshine”. This is a diffuser blend.  Yeah, I know it is not very original but heck, it is what it is. I call it this because I find it uplifting, giving me the motivation to get my arse in gear and face the day head-on.

First Aid Healing Boo-Boo Stick Using Essential Oils

DIY First Aid Healing Stick with Essential Oils | Strategic Living Blog

There are many ways that essential oils can be used to tackle first aid woes created by cuts, scrapes, and abrasions of unknown origins. For me, the one that stands out is a roller ball formula that I fondly call my “Boo Boo Stick”.

When life happens and I cut myself, Boo Boo stick is what I reach for. It is a cinch to make, totally portable, and it does the job. Not only that, it uses oils in my recommended budget-friendly starter kit that includes Lavender, Rosemary, Peppermint, Melaleuca, and Oregano.

You can call this formula a first-aid healing stick, boo-boo stick, “owie” stick, or even a miracle healing stick.  Whatever you decide to call it, it works.   This is what you need to use to aid the recovery of life’s little boo-boos!

The Snarky and Surprising Truth About Essential Oil Companies

Snarky Truth About EO Companies | Strategic Living BLog

As you may have surmised, the EO world can be quite snarky. To tell the truth, in my opinion, there is not a whole lot of difference between the premium oil companies that include DoTerra, Young Living, Rocky Mountain, Plant Therapy, Spark Naturals, Florihana, and others.  These are all reputable companies that sell quality products that are 100% pure.  Does this surprise you?

Here are my thoughts.

The Nuts and Bolts of Essential Oils: A Q&A with George Ure

December 5, 2018 Gaye Levy 3 Comments

Nuts & Bolts of Essential Oils | Strategic Living Blog

I do not talk about it much here on the website, but I am frequently interviewed about this or that.  Mostly, the “this” is about prepping and the corresponding role of women within the context of survivalism.  Lately, the “that” has been about essential oils.

Along those lines, my long-term BFF, George Ure, finally decided to dabble in essential oils. He had questions so I gave him answers. As always, I have strong opinions on the matter but what it all boils down to is that to get started, there are only 5 oils and 2 blends that you really need. All can be purchased for $50 or less.

Here for you are some of my current thoughts on essential oils, presented in a question and answer format.

Doing Thanksgiving Your Way

Happy Thanksgiving | Strategic Living Blog

This is not going to be your traditional Thanksgiving message. Instead, I am going to share my personal feelings about this time of year and buck the trend to stuff your inbox with  “deals of the day” just so I can make a buck or two.

Thanksgiving and this time of year, in general, is not an easy one for me. There are many reasons that lead me to dread the frantic effort to bring people that may not like each other together, prepare meals that give you indigestion and make you feel ill, and, of course, rack up debt by purchasing gifts that may or may not be welcome.

For me, it is all too much.  That doesn’t mean that I am not thankful for many things, but rather that I make Thanksgiving and the holidays more personal, with a private bucket list of things to do and to be grateful for.

For that reason, I tend to hunker down on this day and spend time on this day doing things I love and to heck with obligation and tradition. But that is just me. Perhaps your circumstances are different.

Does this make me antisocial? Perhaps, but read on.
