“To the flag of the United States of America”

I wish this phrase had not been put in or that it was thoroughly explained to the children (me, all through grade school) who were required to repeat the Pledge every day at the beginning of class. I always wondered and did not like pledging loyalty or anything to a piece of cloth.

We are almost the same age (actually I am a bit older). I totally agree with you about the direction our country is headed. Still, there is no where else I would like to live and I fly our flag proudly. I can only hope that I can continue to do so without retribution. Thank you for writing; so sorry it has taken me this long to respond.

It’s 2023 and our country is still struggling. I don’t know your age, but I am almost 72 and it is hard as you age to also see your world disappear, a little at a time. I have enjoyed learning to make HP soap and other DYI products. I look forward to reading more of your writings.

Thank you for sharing this. I, too, have been in a funk this last year…a mix of confusion, dread and bewilderment. I’m praying for the necessary changes in 2022 that will save our beautiful country from becoming something we don’t recognize.
